Global automotive markets continue dynamic growth

The international automotive markets are continuing to expand – only in Western Europe and Brazil did sales fall during the month of April. The Chinese passenger car market is buoyant again and last month it grew by 14 per cent. Sales in Japan actually doubled compared with the same month last year.

Bräunig: Growth in China also benefits German plants

China has shown very impressive development as an automotive country since the beginning of the century. From the year 2001 – when China joined the WTO – to 2011, passenger car production in China rose from 700,000 to 12.2 million units. The German automotive industry has been successfully involved in this rapid growth: one car in five sold in China bears a German group badge.

German passenger car market picks up in March

In March 2012 the German passenger car market grew by more than 3 per cent to 339,200 units. In the first quarter 773,700 cars were newly registered in Germany – a slight rise of a good one per cent over the relatively high figures for the first quarter of 2011.
