VDA welcomes new rules for the scrapping bonus

Frankfurt am Main, 6 March 2009. "The German automotive industry welcomes the new rules concerning the scrapping bonus, which state that as of 30 March presentation of the legally binding sales contract for a new car will be sufficient for it to be placed on the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA)'s reservation list for the bonus payment. The VDA had spent several weeks campaigning for this necessary amendment because the previous procedure had caused great uncertainty among many car-buyers. The amendment that has now been approved gives both people and markets confidence," emphasized Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

Ultimately the customers must not be "penalized" just because the particular new vehicle they want is not available immediately. "Now people can go for the vehicle of their choice and do not have to worry that longer delivery times will leave them empty-handed, Wissmann said. He added that he was convinced the new rules would benefit German group brands most of all, whose vehicles were built in Germany: "Cars from German manufacturers are produced and equipped individually to the customer's order. That takes time."
