Standardised packaging for more efficient production and transport
IAA specialist event with presentation of the VDA’s large load carrier
Berlin, 17 August 2010. Packaging makes all the difference – and in the automotive industry most difference is made by the standardisation of load carriers that are used both in production and over the whole logistical transport chain. A specialist event organised by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) at the IAA on 24 September 2010 will examine in detail the title subject of "Standardisation of packaging”; the VDA’s large load carrier will also be presented at this forum.
The standardisation of load carriers in the automotive industry is not concerned with maintaining tried-and-tested ideas, but with targeted dynamic processes of optimisation that both raise efficiency and make a direct contribution to greater environmental protection.
Load carriers are central elements in the value-added chain. Optimising and standardising them brings about direct and indirect cost savings, and greater efficiency in the material flow chain and in the manufacturing process, because this can reduce procurement costs and make the technology for transport, storage and conveying more efficient. With process-driven deployment of load carriers, the companies need less storage and supply space. This saves money, increases flexibility in using load carriers, improves the flow of materials and information, and thus leads to greater process security.
The event will begin with a welcome from VDA Managing Director Hans-Georg Frischkorn, before Werner Schwentuchowski from Robert Bosch GmbH and chairman of the VDA’s Working Party Container Standardisation (CoC Packaging) speaks about "Standardising packaging by the VDA.” He will be followed by Oliver Heusler, from Continental Automotive GmbH in Regensburg and chairman of the VDA’s Working Party Container Small Load Carriers, explaining the VDA’s small load carrier system. Then Ralf Buss, of CHEP Deutschland GmbH in Cologne and head of the VDA’s Project Group Large Load Carriers, will present the corresponding large load carrier system. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Mr Schwentuchowski, Mr Heusler and Mr Buss, that will focus on the question of "Standardising packaging for the automotive industry – why do it?”
The IAA specialist event "Standardisation of packaging” with the presentation of the VDA’s large load carrier will take place on Friday, 24 September 2010, from 14.00 to 16.00 h in Rooms 13/14 of the Convention Center on the Hannover trade show grounds.
Journalists do not require any special accreditation for the event, but are requested to register for it in advance, at: www.iaa.de (Exhibitors, Specialist Events). If you have any questions please contact Mr Sascha Gröbel at the VDA (tel.: +49 30 897842-223. email: groebel@vda.de).
The 63rd IAA Commercial Vehicles is organised by the VDA and will run from 23 to 30 September 2010. This year’s headline is "Commercial vehicles: efficient, flexible, future-proof” and this is the ninth time the IAA will be held in Hannover. So far, 1,731 exhibitors from 41 countries have registered to take part. In addition to numerous world, European and German premieres by the exhibitors, there will be around 40 specialist events. The special features include test drives of light and heavy commercial vehicles on the public roads, American Trucks (Langhauber), the 11th Historic Vehicles’ German Tour, "GoIng” – the event for upcoming engineers in the automotive industry, and the popular model car collectors’ fair "Automania” on the weekend of the IAA (25 and 26 September).
The IAA, which will showcase numerous innovations and technological highlights from the commercial vehicle industry, is once again proving to be a stable pillar of this key industry. All further information can be found on the Internet, at: www.iaa.de.
