Information Technology for the Automotive Industry

Consultation and IT partner of the automotive industry

Information technology has established itself increasingly as an important success factor for orienting value-creation in development, production, logistics, sales and service of automobiles and generates considerable competitive advantages.

ITA supports the automotive industry in developing innovative business models and solutions, achieving efficiency and productivity advantages, and improving and standardising existing processes. ITA has developed into a transfer partner between strategy, process and technology in core automotive processes, and realises innovative concepts in partnership with the automotive industry.

Today more than 50 renowned consulting firms, logistics providers and IT companies with a wide range of core competencies are already members of ITA. They are fully familiar with the business processes in the automotive industry and can meet its specialised IT requirements. In the financial year 2006, the members of ITA employed a total workforce of 775,000 and turned over approx. EUR 135 billion.

In recent years some impressive project successes have been achieved by ITA, including work on the topics of SCM (Supply Chain Management) and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), which represent a contribution to the profitable growth of the automotive industry. The topic "digital factory” will form a supplementary focus, especially where integration is concerned. Furthermore, ITA is active in working groups and project groups with special topics and initiatives for optimising processes by applying solutions such as digital signatures and e-business, and also by optimising co-operation and reducing interfaces through EAI (Enterprise Application Integration). The organisation has additional initiatives in the field of raising efficiency by optimising container management and in collaboration on numerous VDA projects.

ITA is an active member of various international bodies and working groups, e.g. Odette, AIAG and OAGI. In this way our competence is shared, and we can have a hand in shaping national and international interests and creating transparency in IT-supported processes in the automotive industry. This in turn allows the effective realisation of innovative projects.

The companies involved and further details about the extensive competencies and experience of the automotive industry in the field of IT can found at: www.ita-int.org.
