Fields of Activity
The Automotive Standards Committee in DIN (German Institute for Standardisation), represents the national and international standardisation interest in the automotive field. The scope includes the drawing up of all standards, such as terminology standards, test standards, dimensional standards, interface standards for road vehicles, their body structures and their complete equipment (with the exception of agricultural tractors and special vehicles such as municipal, firefighting and emergency rescue vehicles). Normenausschuss Automobiltechnik is also responsible for the standardisation of multimodal transport containers (such as freight containers and swap container bodies).
Normenausschuss Automobiltechnik represents DIN in the following international committees:
| ISO/TC 22 Road vehicles | CEN/TC 301 Electric vehicles |
| ISO/TC 204 Road transport telematics (together with the German Electrical Engineering Commission (DKE)) | CEN/TC 278
Road transport telematics (together with the German Electrical Engineering Commission (DKE)) |
| ISO/TC 104 Freight containers | CEN/TC 119 Interchangeable containers |
The standardisation work is conducted in Committees and Working Parties (at national level) and in Technical Committees, Sub-Committees and Working Groups (at international and European level). The results of this work are published as national standards (DIN standards), European standards (EN Standards) and international standards (ISO Standards).

All DIN standards for automobile construction are published as a collection of standards in the FAKRA Handbook:
FAKRA-Handbuch
Normen für den Fahrzeugbau
This Handbook can also be ordered here.
The standards collection is in the form of a loose-leaf file that is regularly updated by supplements supplied on a subscription basis. At present, only the paper version is accessible. The Handbook contains about 850 standards and is divided into five volumes that can also be ordered separately. (Order source: Beuth Verlag)
