The VDA

    Committees

The committees and working groups in the VDA deal with the most important topics in the industry: from development to production to communication.

The committees and working groups in the VDA deal with the most important topics in the industry: from development to production to communication.

The Aftermarket Committee deals with relevant topics for vehicle and parts manufacturers in the automotive aftermarket. These include, for example, regulatory topics or process improvements. To this end, the committee manages topic-related working groups and project groups that deal with key topics in greater depth and develop positions and/or recommendations on them. In many cases, this involves close cooperation with other committees within the VDA.

The Communications Committee brings together the communications managers of all members in all manufacturer groups. They exchange views on the public perception of the automotive industry, current transformation issues and political debates affecting the sector. The committee brings together the members' basic lines of communication and gives them a common focus. The members also maintain a close exchange beyond the regular voting sessions. The committee is led by a chairman from among the members and the head of the Communications and Media department at the VDA.

The Logistics Committee is the body that controls all logistics activities in the VDA. It is thus responsible for the most important interface between the companies of the manufacturers and suppliers. The purpose of logistics work in the VDA is to maintain and increase the competitiveness of the automotive industry. The committee is responsible for developing medium- to long-term strategies for the supply chain, for identifying future topics, for allocating project resources, for approving project funds, and for adapting the working group structure to current requirements. For this purpose, the committee meets four times a year with the logistics working group chairs to steer activities and exchange ideas on the resources needed. Furthermore, the Logistics Committee is responsible for the thematic orientation of the Automotive Logistics Forum. The main focal points of the committee's work are the electronic and digital networking of companies, the standardization of documents and business processes, the improvement of transport policy conditions, the increase in sustainability in warehousing and transport processes, and the early standardization of future technologies.

The Production Committee is the body that controls all production activities in the VDA. It is thus responsible for the core area of the automotive industry, the value-added manufacture of the product. The purpose of the production work in the VDA is the exchange on production-relevant political topics as well as pre-competitive standardization. The committee is responsible for developing medium to long-term strategies, identifying future topics, allocating project resources, approving project funds and adapting the working group structure to current requirements. To this end, the committee meets twice a year to steer activities and exchange ideas on the resources required.

The VDA Standardization Committee is the steering body for standardization work in the association. As a cross-sectional task, standardization addresses all core areas and thus also supports the current strategic topics such as the change in drive systems, digitalization and sustainability. It defines the requirements of the German automotive industry in terms of strategic, political, economic and content-related goals and tasks of standardization. Since standardization is important for the functioning of markets, both the international and the European and national levels are considered. The Standardization Committee coordinates coordination with adjacent areas such as regulation or with political platforms.

The development of technical rules is the responsibility of the standardization committees in the Automotive Standards Committee, which is jointly supported by DIN and VDA. In contrast to the VDA Standardization Committee, the Automotive Standards Committee involves all interested parties in the development of the rules and is technically oriented. However, the VDA Standardization Committee supports the technical work by providing experts, among other things.
