IAA specialist events: Automotive truck seminar, Global truck markets and Financial services

How is the global commercial vehicle market developing today, and how will it continue over the coming years? What role do automotive banks have for commercial vehicle customers? These will be the central questions at the symposia on financial services and commercial vehicle markets, which will take place during the world’s leading trade fair for mobility, transport and logistics – the 65th International Motor Show (IAA) Commercial Vehicles – in Hannover.

“Global Truck Markets – 2025 and beyond”

In line with the IAA slogan “Driving the future”, attention is focused on highly significant current and medium-term development trends in the commercial vehicle industry. For this reason, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the business consultants A.T. Kearney, and Rementum Research & Management are organising the symposium “Global Truck Markets – 2025 and beyond”. The international commercial vehicle manufacturers have to tackle future challenges such as stricter climate and environmental regulations, and increasing competition from other parts of the world.

The consequences for the market are considered in the study entitled “Global Truck Markets – Perspectives Towards 2030”, which provides an outlook for structural developments in the sector. The symposium will open with a lecture about this study delivered by Dr Rüdiger Pleines, of A.T. Kearney. Carl Holmquist, of Rementum Research & Management, will examine “Why European innovation leads the world – But global products will remain an illusion”. Dr Christian Kohrs of MAN Truck & Bus AG, Hans Ristner of Volvo Group, and Michael Bitter of Bosch Diesel Systems will also give presentations. The following panel discussion will include Carl Holmquist, Michael Bitter, Dr Christian Kohrs, Hans Ristner and Stephan Krubasik, Principal at A.T. Kearney. The event, conducted in German and English, will take place on Thursday, 25 September 2014, from 14.15 h to 16.45 h, in Room 3B of the Convention Center on the Hannover trade fair grounds.

Financial services in the commercial vehicle business

Rental, leasing, financing and insurance are all integral to the commercial vehicle sector. However, customers also expect additional service packages guaranteeing the smooth running of their vehicle fleets both in Germany and abroad. Therefore the VDA and the AKA (association of automotive banking and leasing companies) are holding a joint specialist event entitled “Financial services in the commercial vehicle business”. After a welcome from VDA Managing Director Klaus Bräunig, Andre Girnus from Mercedes-Benz CharterWay will present combined financial and service packages for commercial vehicles. Holger Mandel from MAN Finance International will give the participants an insight into financial services in the commercial vehicle fleet business. “The vehicle values make work for idle trucks – but do not put an end to it!” will then be the topic for Jens Nietzschmann, Spokesman of the board at DAT GmbH. The final lecture on “Insuring commercial vehicle fleets” will be delivered by Dr Edgar Puls, member of the Management Board of HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG. A panel discussion will round off the symposium with the speakers discussing “Financial services: wide-ranging uses for commercial vehicle markets”. The event will take place on Tuesday, 30 September 2014, from 10.00 h to 14.00 h, in Room 3A of the Convention Center on the Hannover trade fair grounds.

Automotive truck seminar

Current information about the global commercial vehicle market and production prospects will play a major role at the IAA. Together with the forecaster IHS Automotive, the VDA is therefore organising an “Automotive truck seminar”. At this symposium, held in English, experts from IHS Automotive will give the participants insights into various international markets. The event will open with a presentation by IHS Automotive. This will be followed by Director Andrej Divis giving a global overview, and a lecture from Gary Meteer, Director Commercial Vehicle Solutions, who will examine North America and the NAFTA free trade agreement. Information on the European market will be presented by Principal Analyst Ewa Root and Associate Director Christoph Domke, before Senior Analyst Jia Li sheds light on the Chinese market. The symposium will take place on Thursday, 25 September 2014, from 9.30 h to 13.00 h, in the Bonn Room of the Convention Center on the Hannover trade fair grounds.

The 65th IAA Commercial Vehicles is organised by the VDA and will run from 25 September to 2 October 2014. Under the slogan “Driving the future” it will present numerous world, European and German premieres along with a large number of specialist events and special shows. Comprehensive information about the exhibition and an online registration form for the specialist events can be found on the new IAA website, at: www.iaa.de. Participation at the specialist events is free of charge for journalists.
