Stable exports and production
The German passenger car market grew by 5 per cent in September to reach 260,100 newly registered passenger cars. Over the year to date new registrations have risen by 3 per cent, totalling almost 2.3 million units.
September orders from the home market climbed by a good 5 per cent, and likewise in the first nine months of this year orders from domestic customers rose by around 5 per cent. Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), stressed, “Despite a difficult overall economic situation, so far this year the German market has shown a stable underlying tendency.”
Last month’s exports by German manufacturers amounted to 397,900 passenger cars, showing a modest rise (+1 per cent). However, September 2014 had one working day more than the same month last year. Since January, exports have increased by 4 per cent (3.26 million units).
Incoming orders from abroad remain robust. In September orders of German brands increased by more than 3 per cent, and since the beginning of the year they have risen by nearly 6 per cent.
Passenger car production in Germany was stable in September. A total of 527,800 units rolled off German makers’ production lines, which was a rise of 3 per cent. In the first three quarters of this year, production increased to more than 4 million units (+4 per cent). Wissmann commented, “Good market results in the USA, the UK and China contribute to stable assembly at home. Western Europe’s gradual recovery is continuing. However, we currently observe that the mood of consumers and industry is cooling off somewhat owing to geopolitical uncertainties.”
