Domestic production stable, exports up slightly
In July 2015, 290,200 new cars were registered in Germany. This corresponds to an increase of 7 per cent over the same month last year. In the course of the year to date, the German market has grown by almost 6 per cent to altogether more than 1.9 million units. “This July brought the highest sales volume since the beginning of the century – compared with the previous year’s figures and disregarding the special case of the scrapping bonus in 2009. This demonstrates the current strength of the German automobile market”, stressed Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). The new orders from the home market also give grounds for optimism. Showing a rise of 7 per cent, they too were well above the previous year’s level.
Export and production display more moderate developments, however. With 411,900 units in July, car exports from Germany were only slightly up on the level reached the year before (+1 per cent). Since the beginning of the year German car manufacturers have delivered around 2.7 million cars from Germany to foreign customers. This is equivalent to an increase of 1 per cent compared with the same period in the preceding year.
Altogether 532,400 cars were built in Germany in July. This figure corresponds to the previous year’s level. The total of altogether around 3.5 million cars produced in the first seven months of the year also reached last year’s level.
