Connected and automated driving form innovation topic at 66th IAA Cars
The 66th International Motor Show (IAA) Cars in Frankfurt am Main will showcase the latest trends and technological highlights of the automotive year 2015. The world’s most important mobility trade show will run from September 17 to 27, 2015. Around 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries will display their innovations, including numerous world premieres. The IAA slogan is “Mobility connects” – and points up the megatrend of connected and automated driving which, alongside electric mobility, will be a defining aspect of this automotive exhibition.
“New Mobility World” highlights the most important mobility trends
Of course visitors will be able to see and experience these topics at the stands of the manufacturers and major suppliers. Furthermore, the new exhibition section entitled “New Mobility World” (H3.1) will showcase the most important developments and innovations in the new digital mobile world that will combine different areas. Therefore this section will include firms from the field of telecommunication.
The exhibition’s conceptual framework is reflected in five thematic areas: Connected Car, Automated Driving, E-Mobility, Urban Mobility and Mobility Services. The complete spectrum – from driver assistance systems as the first step toward automated driving, all the way to a wide range of urban mobility solutions – will be presented to visitors on a total area of 30,000 square meters – including 12,000 square meters for the outdoor circuit (F12). This new platform places the focus squarely on modern people with their changing individual mobility needs.
Test drives through the streets of Frankfurt
Eight manufacturers from Germany and abroad will offer visitors the chance to test drive their favored models free of charge in public road traffic and thus to experience the benefits of the latest electric or conventionally powered models. Participants will need a valid driver’s license and personal ID – and once they have registered in Hall 10 on the trade show grounds nothing will get in the way of a “joy ride” lasting up to 25 minutes.
Test track for off-road vehicles
A modern and very popular “IAA classic” is the off-road circuit on the open-air site F12 to the south of Hall 10. IAA visitors can take a ride with a professional driver and experience “up close” their dream vehicle – anything from a modern off-road vehicle to a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) – being put through its paces: lumps and bumps, pot-holes, extreme inclines, gravel and bridges. This is an excellent demonstration of the technology with which modern off-road vehicles are equipped for overcoming demanding terrain. Here skill is more important than speed!
Carrera offers motor racing in miniature
Carrera, the world market leader in slot car tracks and accessories, is inviting enthusiasts to take part in fantastic motor races on the miniature race track, with gripping duels guaranteed. On the DIGITAL 132 track, contestants can choose their individual favorites from the Audi A5 DTM, the AMG Mercedes-Benz C-Coupé DTM and the BMW M3 DTM, and really step on the gas. The racing championship in miniature format will be held on the huge digital Carrera race track on the open-air site F11.
Fun for children
Entertainment will also be provided for younger exhibition visitors. The IAA children’s movie theater (from age five upwards) will offer a varied program in Hall 4.2. In addition, on the open-air site (F4) children aged between three and 13 will be able to get behind the steering wheel themselves for the first time, and in the LEGOLAND® driving school they can develop their love of driving and try out their talent. Here they will drive small electric cars from Hyundai and have a unique opportunity to take their first “driving test.”
Visitors will find these and many other fascinating events and activities at the 66th IAA Cars held in Frankfurt am Main from September 17 to 27, 2015.
