Significant increase in domestic and foreign incoming orders
Some 302,700 new cars were registered in Germany in November. That's a solid increase of 9 percent compared to the same time last year. New car registrations have risen by 3 percent year-over-year to around 3.2 million. Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) stressed that, 'Last month's market development was very strong. It’s the best result for November since 2006, one of the reasons being the trade-in bonuses for older diesel vehicles.’
As expected, new registrations of diesel engine passenger cars continued to fall (-17 percent). Diesel cars made up 34.0 percent of new registrations in November. Just one year ago, they still accounted for some 44.9 percent. January to November saw new diesel car registrations fall by nearly 13 percent compared to the same time last year.
The number of incoming domestic orders increased by nearly 7 percent in November. Orders from domestic clients were up around 2 percent on last year's figures while year-over-year orders from abroad increased by 19 percent. That's a rise of 5 percent since January.
Some unusual statistical effects (more inventory days than in the same month last year) meant that, at some plants, production and export were not recorded in full in October. These figures have however since been included in the statistics for November. Thus, in the month under review, German manufacturers exported some 437,900 passenger cars. That's a good 6 percent increase over the same time last year. Since the year started, exports have dropped slightly by 1 percent to almost 4.1 million.
Production also demonstrated significant growth in November. Overall, 579,600 units were manufactured in Germany; that’s a year-over-year increase of 8 percent. In the first eleven months, nearly 5.3 million new vehicles rolled off the production lines (-2 percent).
