VDA statement regarding the amendment to the Energy Industry Act
A VDA Spokesperson:
"The amendment to the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) passed today by the German Bundestag makes an important contribution to setting the long-term course for the energy system and the further ramp-up of e-mobility. The amendment to the law enables bidirectionally used e-vehicles and charging points to participate in the electricity markets - a first important regulatory step on the way to the successful market launch of bidirectional charging. The fact that the Bundestag was able to agree to implement it during this legislative period is therefore also an important and at the same time necessary political signal of support for e-mobility.
However, the amendment does not adequately solve the problem of double taxation, where electricity ancillary costs are incurred twice for one and the same kilowatt hour when electricity is fed back into the public electricity grid (vehicle-to-grid). The planned regulations will avoid double taxation in the case of surcharges, but not in the case of network charges and electricity tax. Solutions are still needed here in order to create added value for consumers, which also increases the attractiveness of e-mobility overall. A new federal government should therefore work with the Federal Network Agency to push for appropriate changes in order to completely resolve the problem of double taxation."
