VDA statement regarding the debate surrounding the EU Green Claims Directive

    VDA President Hildegard Müller:

"We welcome the fact that Brussels is finally discussing the purpose and meaning of the Green Claims Directive. The Green Claims Directive represents the opposite of the simplification agenda promised by Brussels and so urgently needed. Rather, the directive threatens to burden many small businesses in particular – without any discernible practical benefit for consumers' purchasing decisions.

Therefore, the EU Commission must now clearly and unequivocally withdraw the Green Claims Directive. The German government must vigorously advocate for this in Brussels, because one thing is clear: Europe and Germany need less, not more, regulation.

In addition, the EU already has an existing legal framework to effectively prevent misleading advertising. This makes it all the more important that Brussels refrain from this excessive and multiple regulation."
