VDA Statement regarding

    Grid Package

    Berlin, July 28, 2026

    VDA President Hildegard Müller:

"The grid package adopted by the Cabinet today aims to structurally accelerate grid connections and clear the backlog in grid connection procedures—a goal we expressly welcome.

Fortunately, significant improvements have been made to the draft in the final stages. For instance, the electrification of the transport sector and the necessary expansion of charging infrastructure are to be explicitly taken into account when prioritizing grid connections. This is important, as sluggish grid expansion and protracted grid connection procedures are significantly slowing down the transition to climate-neutral mobility.

Another positive aspect is the inclusion of a further prioritization criterion based on the location-specific nature of connection requests. This is particularly relevant for the electrification of existing industrial sites.

It is regrettable, however, that there is still a lack of clear deadlines for grid connections, particularly for priority projects. Consequently, the connection guarantee for industry announced by the coalition—under which industrial enterprises are to be given clear deadlines for connecting their facilities to the power grid with the required capacity—has not yet been adequately implemented. Further improvements are needed here during the parliamentary process."
