On 12 September 2013 the 65th IAA Cars will open its doors. While the first two days are reserved for trade visitors, from 14 September onwards the exhibition will be open to the general public. And there are numerous automobile-related special activities for visitors of all ages. Fun behind the steering wheel, the children’s cinema, and quiet breaks – an entertaining and informative programme offers visitors the possibility of participating actively in the world’s most automobile show.
All aboard! – Test drives at the IAA
Numerous exhibitors, for example Citroën, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Maserati, Opel, Renault, Tesla and Volvo, the supplier Valeo and the provider Erdgas Mobil, are making their vehicles available for 25-minute test drives free of charge. Visitors can choose from about 70 cars and take a vehicle out for a test drive on Frankfurt’s roads. There are ten brand new models from various manufacturers. Anyone with a valid driving licence can pick up a confirmation note at the stands of the participating manufacturers and start from Hall 10 in the chosen test vehicle.
Demonstrating skills in off-road vehicles
This year again, the off-road vehicle test circuit will be a crowd-puller at the IAA. Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Isuzu and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are presenting their latest models. Visitors can take a ride in their favourite vehicle as a passenger to be manoeuvred around the demanding off-road circuit by real professionals – over lumps and bumps, pot-holed slopes, extreme inclines, gravel tracks and bridges. Interested visitors can register either at the exhibition stands of the participating manufacturers or directly at the off-road circuit.
…and putting your foot down in a racing car
This year’s IAA also has something for lovers of fast cars. Carrera, world the market leader in slot car tracks and accessories, is once again setting up its digital race track. On the open-air site F11 visitors can choose between facsimile miniatures of the Audi A5 DTM, the AMG Mercedes C-Coupé DTM and the BMW M3 DTM. Participants will be divided into three age groups to compete for victory on each day. Who will qualify for the grand final in Essen in November and enter World Final of the Carrera Challenge Tour in the spring of 2015?
Those who would like to get behind the wheel of the really fast cars can download a driver’s licence from www.carrerachallenge.com and register at the race track.
Who are Germany’s best drivers?
A different kind of title will be awarded by the German Road Safety Council (DVR) and the trade magazine “AutoBild.” Their safe driving campaign “Germany’s best drivers” on the open-air site F12/F13 will not be looking for speed but safety in road traffic. Here, too, there are great prizes to be won.
Best front passenger – driver assistance systems for every driving style
Reliable, fast and attentive – driver assistance systems help avoid accidents and therefore contribute to general road safety. In a personal test in Hall 3.1, F12/F13, IAA visitors can find out which of these electronic front passengers is best suited to their own driving style and with a bit of luck they can win a safety kit.
Information and relaxation for the ladies
This year the online portal “Hallo Frau” again invites female automobile fans to the “LadiesCorner” in the foyer of Hall 4.0. There they can relax and obtain information about the most varied topics surrounding cars. Anyone who needs time out from the hustle and bustle of the trade show can also enjoy a soft drink or a coffee and replenish their energy in a massage chair.
Relaxation for all
A break from the hustle and bustle of the exhibition is also offered by the relaxation areas in the foyers of Halls 1 and 4.1, in the “Galeria” and on open-air site F10, in massage chairs from HHP Relax. A very special wellness highlight is also offered by the emotion chair provided by the magazine “Emotion.”
Children’s programme at the IAA
It’s never too early to learn – so at the IAA even children can get behind the steering wheel. They can take their “first driving test” in small electric cars by Hyundai in the LEGOLAND driving school on open-air site F12. Road sense can be learnt through play by car-lovers aged between five and ten at the “Kids Driving School” organised by the firms kinder Überraschung and Porsche on open-air site F12 from 14 to 22 September.
One highlight for young trade fair visitors is the IAA children’s cinema. Twentieth Century Fox invites children aged from five to 11 to see moving moments on the big screen. From 14 to 22 September there are three showings daily, at 12.00, 14.00 and 16.00 h. The films “Rio,” “Epic,” “Robots,” “Ice Age: Continental Drift” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Chipwrecked” will be shown in turn. The auditorium is in Room Brillanz in Hall 4.2, and entry is free of charge. This year the high-speed snail TURBO will present the IAA children’s films. Those wishing to see it in action can watch “TURBO – Kleine Schnecke, großer Traum” (“TURBO – the little snail with a big dream”) at the cinema from Thursday, 3 October. The high-speed 3D comedy tells the story of the little snail that wants to go very fast. With his heart in the right place and his shell in racing mode, TURBO proves that no dream is too big and no dreamer is too small.
“Automania” model car collectors’ fair on 21 and 22 September
Anyone who wishes not to admire their favourite cars just at the exhibition, but also on display at home, will find the “Automania” collectors’ fair is the place to be. In Hall 4.1 on 21 and 22 September numerous collectors from all over the world will be offering lovers of model cars miniature vehicles to buy, sell and exchange. Spare parts and specialist literature will also be available.
