Today Dr. Ing. E.h. Bernard Krone was given honorary membership of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) in recognition of his outstanding services as long-serving VDA Vice-president and chairman of the Manufacturer Group “Trailers, Special Bodies and Buses.”
Matthias Wissmann, VDA President, said in appreciation: “While serving our association you constantly worked especially hard for the interests of the commercial vehicle sector. Your commitment is something that everyone who came into contact with you will remember for a long time. You never minced your words, but still always expressed your criticism with a certain charm. Some people call that ‘Emsland diplomacy’ – certainly served up with a generous portion of entrepreneurial independence.”
Wissmann went on to say, “Your assertiveness has benefited in particular the trailer and body manufacturers within the VDA. You have been an excellent spokesman for Manufacturer Group II – the smallest manufacturer group in the association. In addition to your own sector, you have also always kept our customers – the haulage and transport businesses – firmly in mind. We will continue to foster this partnership.”
Ulrich Schöpker, Board Member for Sales at Schmitz Cargobull AG and VDA Vice-president, also paid tribute to Dr Krone: “You always knew how to fight for the interests of all our members in your work at the VDA. As an entrepreneur, and in the association, you have continuously driven forward new transport and traffic concepts while demanding efficient and sustainable solutions – on the one hand from manufacturers and forwarders, and on the other from politicians paving the way for a progressive future. You never went for ‘small-scale solutions’ without real benefit, which were not going to pay off for the forwarders. And then we also experienced you as feisty, but always working constructively and diplomatically for the issue in question. The member companies in Manufacturer Group II will always be very grateful for this enormous commitment.”
Nearlyone year ago, Dr Krone resigned from his positions as chairman of the Manufacturer Group II Advisory Board and as Vice-president of the VDA. He had been on the Advisory Board of Manufacturer Group II from 1994. In 2003 he was elected to the VDA’s Managing Board, and in 2004 he was elected VDA Vice-president. The company Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone GmbH has been a VDA member since 1972. Dr Bernard Krone headed the firm for almost 50 years, being the third generation of his family to do so. In 2010 he officially handed over the reins of the Krone Group to his son Bernard; his daughter Dorothee became managing director of the company’s agricultural machinery division (LVD Krone) back in 2001.
