High level of incoming orders – boost for the automotive year 2014
In December 2013, a total of 215,300 passenger cars were newly registered in Germany. This ensured another a good 5 per cent growth on the domestic market as the year closed, and put the total number of vehicles newly registered during the year 2013 at more than 2.95 million (-4 per cent).
“We are optimistic about the new year. The welcome December figures show that the German passenger car market is continuing to stabilise. For the year 2014 as a whole we expect slight expansion to somewhere around 3 million new passenger car registrations. These prospects are supported by the incoming domestic orders, which exceeded the level from December last year by 14 per cent,” said Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).
Exports of passenger cars went up by 3 per cent to 286,100 units in December. Total exports in 2013 rose by nearly 2 per cent to reach 4.2 million cars.
December’s trend in production was also positive: at 360,000 passenger cars, domestic production showed a year-on-year increase of 6 per cent. Over the entire year 2013 about 5.45 million passenger cars were produced in Germany, which corresponds to slender growth of 1 per cent.
