  • Electrified Vans & Required Charging Infrastructure
    VDA Position 29 July 2021

Electrified Vans & Required Charging Infrastructure

The European Union’s fleet-wide CO2 emission targets and the German Federal Government’s Climate Action Plan demand a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. The specific CO2 targets for vans (N1) 2030 result in huge pressure relating to vehicle technology, and to user acceptance. Applying this technology in everyday operations with an available, appropriate and connected charging infrastructure, and with it the acceptance of alternative charging options, is a basic requirement for realizing the climate targets and the associated vehicle ramp-up. The expected rapid ramp-up requires the reliable and widescale provision of the necessary charging infrastructure. The recommendations for the right measures and setting the course are summarized in the VDA position "Electrified Vans and the required charging infrastructure”.

  • PFAS in Automotive Technologies of the Future
    VDA Position 29 July 2021

PFAS in Automotive Technologies of the Future

In its Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability adopted in 2020, the European Commission proposed an extensive package of measures for the general regulation of all PFAS, irrespective of whether their properties are hazardous or non-hazardous. This was intended to ensure that application of PFAS in the EU would be gradually phased out. Such Extensive limitation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – a group of around 4,700 different compounds – would have far-reaching impacts on the automotive industry, which are described in this document.

  • Requirements for a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
    VDA Position 16 July 2021

Requirements for a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed a CO2 border adjustment measure at the beginning of her term of office. The aim should be to impose a levy on selected goods from countries with lower CO2 standards. This was also intended to protect industry in the EU from unequal competitive conditions and prevent "carbon leakage". Achieving the climate protection targets of the Fit for 55 package will require enormous efforts from industry and society. The aim of the Paris Agreement is to achieve these efforts on a global scale, because climate protection policy is a global task that can only be solved jointly by the world community. Against this background, the VDA has formulated requirements for the design of a possible CO2 limit compensation mechanism.
