The German automotive industry can look back on one and a half years of economic success. Last year, German automobile manufacturers increased their global passenger car production to a new record of 15.1 million units. Within this total, domestic production has – for the first time in 10 years – grown more strongly than foreign production, namely by 2 percent to 5.7 million units. Our important big markets of China, Western Europe and North America have continued to grow in the first half of 2016 as well. Employment in our industry topped 800,000 employees in the core workforces in Germany. The automotive industry remains a critical job factor in Germany.
