Since 2009, components companies have had the opportunity at the International Motor Show to present themselves to the public on exclusively the media and specialist visitor days. Hall 4.1 at the Frankfurt exhibition center is the venue for this part of IAA, and is only open for the first four days. This offer of a shorter exhibition period proved popular in 2013, for example by 100 Chinese automobile components companies, which presented themselves on a joint stand. The VDA will also offer this alternative again in 2015

To encourage interest from specialist visitors in the components companies exhibiting during the second week of the International Motor Show, the VDA organized technology tours by purchasers and developers from German manufacturing companies. The tours were held in relatively small groups, allowing sufficient time to view the individual component supplier stations. They proved to be an important initiative: Firstly as a means of supporting purchasers and developers of car manufacturers to visit the show, and secondly to provide components suppliers with the opportunity of entering into additional technical discussions with their customers.

The suppliers were able to promote their IAA presentation in advance in a special publication organized by the VDA. The “Automotive components companies” supplement appeared in the “Handelsblatt” in advance of IAA in 2013; this gave companies the opportunity to present their expertise in the form of technical papers. The VDA will also offer a corresponding type of publication again in the run-up to IAA Commercial Vehicles 2014. As another means of supporting IAA appearance, the VDA offered new communication services last year designed for small and medium-sized exhibitors. The companies had access to assistance in the form of a communication tool kit for media work, a video report from their show stand, integration into show tours organized according to topics and the use of an online matchmaking platform.
