Assistance systems in commercial vehicles

The technical developments do not stand still. Permanently improved assistance systems are being developed to make the traffic and handling of trucks safer and more convenient.

Safety systems for commercial vehicles

Safety technologies have made a significant contribution to making commercial vehicles ever safer. The main goal of the innovations is to avoid accidents that occur frequently with heavy commercial vehicles. These include rear-end collisions, accidents due to lane change maneuvers and accidents caused by getting-off the road. Since November 2015, all new trucks in the EU - with few exemptions - have to be equipped with emergency braking assistants and lane departure warning systems. ESP has been mandatory since 2014.

assistance systems required by law

Among other things these assistance systems are required by law in trucks,

• the electronic stability program (ESP)

• Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

• the emergency brake assistant - Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS)
