Driver assistance systems save lives
The number of injured road users is declining since years. Driver assistance systems becomes a crucial role in this strategy.
Modern safety systems offer all road users a high level of safety and help to avoid up to 50% of serious accidents. In addition, they ensure that you reach your destination more relaxed.
In a demonstration with more than 1,000 trucks, the German Federal Association for Freight Transport Logistics and Disposal (BGL) eV, together with the German Professional Association for Transport and Traffic Management and KRAVAG Insurance, showed that vehicles with driver assistance systems are 34% less likely to have an accident than with similar reference vehicles.
The risk of a fatal accident has declined by 86 percent since 1970. On average, a truck travels around three million kilometers without an accident before being involved in an accident with injured road users.
The electronic turning assistant
With the electronic turning assistant, radar sensors monitor the right-hand side of the vehicle and detect stationary and moving objects. Where an object in the blind spot has been recognized, a two-stage warning is issued. The system not only works when turning at intersections, but also supports the driver when changing the lane.
Lane departure warning
The Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warns the driver if he unintended leaves the lane. A camera, which is attached inside the cabin behind the windshield, is used to recognize the lane markings. An optical and audible warning may be supported by a haptic warning via a steering wheel or via a vibration of the driver's seat. This system is required by law for buses and trucks.
Drowsiness and distraction are the most common reasons for unintended leaving the lane. This assistant remains active even on long journeys on motorways or roads and thus helps to avoid accidents.
The intelligent light assistant
The light assistant detects oncoming vehicles and vehicles in front and adjusts the headlights so that they are not dazzled. This creates an automatic transition between high beam and low beam.
The already established cornering light offers optimal lighting by swiveling the low beam depending on the curve radius. This not only makes driving at night safer, but also more comfortable.
The driver is relieved of routine tasks by means of of cruise control and lane keeping assistants. In addition, no driver always drives perfectly! The relaxed driving behavior ultimately makes road traffic more convenient and the level of safety is significantly increased.
