VDA-Recommendations
Threaded Joints in Light Metals - Requirements for Bolts and Screws
This recommendation applies to assemblies of bolts and screws with ISO metric threads M5 to M24 with regular and fine pitch and property classes 8.8 and higher according to DIN EN ISO 898-1 for applications in light metal alloys.
This VDA recommendation may also be applied to bolts and screws made of aluminum alloys as per DIN EN 28839 and of aluminum alloy AL9 according to various in-house standards as well as to plug screws with property classes 4.8 and 5.8.
When this recommendation is applied to bolts and screws belonging in product grades A and B, DIN EN 26157-3 applies, amended by addi-tional requirements that limit the specifications in the corresponding product standards as well.
This VDA recommendation is applicable to all bolt lengths. The amended requirements are subdivided into geometric and production-spe-cific requirements.
