The VDA’s 10 points on the federal election

The automotive industry is a global motor for innovation, employs over 800,000 people, and will be investing 150 billion euros in digitalization, e-mobility, and new powertrains over the next few years. Our companies need transparent perspectives now. Their goals and needs in ten points.

The automotive industry is a global motor for innovation, employs over 800,000 people, and will be investing 150 billion euros in digitalization, e-mobility, and new powertrains over the next few years. Our companies need transparent perspectives now. Their goals and needs in ten points.

    1. Climate-neutral mobility: Use and promote all technologies for CO2 reduction.

Every car, every bus, and every truck should be climate-neutral. Depending on requirements and conditions, a battery-electric drive, hydrogen, a fuel cell, or synthetic fuels are the most sustainable solutions. All technologies are needed. To achieve the fleet limits, a rapid ramp-up of electromobility is a priority.

    2. Charging and refueling: The key to CO₂-neutral transportation is an overall infrastructure.

The basic prerequisites for climate-neutral traffic are sufficient amounts of climate-neutral electricity as well as comprehensive charging and refueling infrastructures. In addition, 100% “green” electricity must be the goal. This will require a joint effort by policymakers, the energy sector, and industry.

    5. Automotive industry as a creator of jobs: Securing employment, growth, and prosperity.

To withstand global competition, we need optimum location conditions. These include reasonable energy prices and a competitive tax system. Climate protection and digitalization must be drivers of prosperity, growth, and employment. Climate protection requires record investments that must first be earned. Because investments in climate protection need a strong industry.
